The Unhurried Heart of Antigua

In Antigua, life moves slowly. Textiles are still woven by hand, tortillas are freshly made and pressed, and artisans utilize techniques that are passed down through generations. Their materials and ingredients are local. Many indigenous Mayan people continue to wear their traditional traje, celebrating the ancestral patterns and vivid colors that honor their culture.

The Guatemalan way of slow, traditional, and handcrafted goods resonated with James and Jess deeply. They are the same principles that guide everything we create at Farmhouse.

Among the hand-painted pottery and woven textiles that they brought home, our new Homestead Hen Potholders emerged as true gems. Crafted from 100% recycled denim in signature Farmhouse colors, each potholder is handcrafted by Guatemalan women in marginalized communities, providing them with meaningful work and economic opportunity.

Chickens have long been part of the Farmhouse story — from the live hens that once greeted visitors at our store to our Vermont-made Araucana boards. Our new potholders are bringing in a familiar charm while supporting artisan communities whose values mirror our own.

The upcycled denim is sourced from The New Denim Project, using post-industrial cotton made without dyes or harsh chemicals and giving new life to textiles that would otherwise go to waste.
