The Story of Silo & Our Growing Collection

Inspired by the clean lines of traditional farm silos that dot the Vermont landscape, our beloved Silo Collection pays homage to our home state.

From the very beginning, I wanted to create a simple, timeless form. I knew that less was more when designing the Silo Collection.

Inspired by the clean lines of traditional farm silos that dot the Vermont landscape, our beloved Silo Collection pays homage to our home state and embodies our founder James's philosophy of understated elegance in design.

It began with a simple mug — one of the first pieces James designed for Farmhouse in 2012. With its maker’s throw lines, revealed clay base, classic white glaze, and our signature laurel stamp, the Silo Mug became the foundation of the Farmhouse aesthetic: tactile, humble, and timeless.

The Anatomy of a Silo Piece:

Straight Form

Each Silo piece borrows its simple, straight form from the structures that dot the countryside surrounding our studio.

Throw Lines

The potter’s subtle throw lines add character and speak to the authentically handmade nature of every piece.

The Laurel Stamp

Every pot is individually handled and stamped by hand with our laurel, representing the quality that Farmhouse is known for.

The collection soon grew to include our classic dinnerware, pitchers, crocks, and more. James’s interest in mixed materials led to the introduction of Silo Glassware, and most recently our new Silo Cutlery — all embodying the same, simple forms as the original mug. The mix of finishes were all designed to complement each other effortlessly on the table.

A natural addition to the collection was the Taper Hurricane, born from James’s love of candlelight. This time of year, he and his partner eat nearly every meal by some form of candlelight —their favorite cold-weather ritual. After years of living with these pieces, he found new needs emerging and was inspired to create a larger size.

New this season, the Large Silo Taper Hurricane brings that same quiet beauty to larger spaces. Designed to hold a 12” taper candle and featuring the same finger loop as its smaller counterpart, it carries an old-world spirit into the modern home. It’s perfectly suited for every corner, from your gathering places to private nooks.

Each piece in the Silo collection carries its own quiet character — a reflection of the hands of that shaped it and the simple, humble form that defines our pieces. We’re proud to call it our signature.

This beautiful piece of white pottery fits in perfectly with my collection of antique/vintage white stoneware. Slim lines, with an authentic appeal. This piece is lovely alone or as a set which was my choice. It looks beautiful on a welsh cupboard, a farm table, or a fireplace mantel. I’ll be moving mine around to fit my mood and the season. Love it!
