A pie bird is a hollow ceramic vent placed upright in the center of a double-crust pie before baking. It channels steam out through its open beak, preventing the filling from bubbling over and keeping the bottom crust crisp. Ours are hand-thrown stoneware and double as a charming tabletop decoration.
Is your pottery bakeware oven-safe?
Yes — our stoneware bakeware is oven-safe up to 450°F and also dishwasher and microwave safe. Avoid sudden temperature changes: don't move a cold piece directly from the fridge into a hot oven. We also recommend against broiling, and always check for hairline cracks before baking, as they can expand under heat.
